Something to Blog about

I went to NYC last week for the first time! It was amazing, I am ready to pick up and move there. Midtown if I had a choice ; ) I went with my Step-sister and my step-mother, it was for both our 25th birthday's! I'm pretty sure it was the best vacation I've ever been on, we just got to do and see so much! I'm trying to talk Kyle into taking me back for our 5 year anniversary, but he's not a big fan on NY : (

Here is a few pics of the trip. I just got my new Nikon D90 the night before so I took tons of pics but I'll just show you some of my favs!

This was going to be pic 7. but I just couldn't put it last , its me and Christopher Meloni aka Det. Elliot Stabler from Law and Order SVU. I ran into him at LaGuardia Airport on the way home! He was so nice and cute!!!!!!!!!!!

Blogworthy Potatoes by Melissa d' Arabian

If you have been watching "The Next Food Network Star" then you know who Melissa d' Arabian is. I was sooooo happy she was the winner, she's from Keller TX, has 4 young children, and no formal training in food. Her show, focuses on making meals for four for $10 and under! Perfect for me, I'm trying to get back into the swing of cooking again. So some new easy meals would be great! I believe her show will premiere this Sunday on the Food Network!

So anyways... here is the recipe.... http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/5-minute-individual-potato-gratins-recipe/index.html

I made them tonight for dinner, and they were some of the best potatoes I've ever had let alone made. The only things I did differently are:

1. I used 1 XL potato, it filled 10 of the 12 muffin cups.
2. I used half swiss cheese and half american cheese
3. I used heavy cream, but if you don't have any you can substitue for a slice of butter on top.
4. Oh and make the last layer before the heavy cream the cheese, it gives it a nice brown crust.
5. One more thing, I only cooked mine for about 25 min. Once they start bubbling they are done!

They were super simple and a great quick and easy side dish.

Next I'm going to try her 4 step chicken. It looks really good/ easy and you can add or take out things you like/dislike. Here is the recipe for that if you wanna give it a try... http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/flexible-4-step-chicken-for-family-and-company--rustic-lemon-onion-chicken-recipe/index.html

Chocolate Tuxedos

Yum these are so good and so pretty! I'm making these for my FIL wedding and just thought I would share this super simple how to. You can also make wedding dresses out of just the white chocolate, I just haven't tried it yet!

Chocolate Covered Tuxedo Strawberries:

Ingredients

Fresh Strawberries
1 bag milk chocolate chips
1 bag white chocolate chips
toothpick or frosting bag and small tip
wax paper

Directions

Rinse strawberries and pat dry. (They must be dry or the chocolate won't stick)

melt white chocolate. Do 45 sec increments on half power and stir in between until it is completely melted.

Line baking sheet with wax paper. Dip Strawberries in white chocolate and place on baking sheet. Place sheet in refrigerator until they are hard.

Then melt the milk choclate the same way. Dip half on the strawberry in the chocolate and then the other half so it forms a V.

Place back in refrigerator until hard.

Then with either your toothpick or the frosting bag draw two buttons (dots) on the shirt (white middle) and a bow tie with the milk chocolate.

And wha la... your done!

Kelly's Home Tour: Living Room!

I know I haven't blogged in awhile but I'm saving up all blogs for one week! I have lots of recipes to add and some big events coming up; new BabyOso items and news, Mother's day, Makayla's 1st b-day parties, weddings, my new hobby (cake decorating) lots of stuff! Stay Tuned!

I didn't participate in Kitchen Friday so I posted a pic at the end, and a question to go along with it. (I need window treatment help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Disclaimer: I have two kids, a 3 year old boy and a almost 1 year old girl; this is why I do not have a lot of decorations low at their grabbing level, also I like simplicity in decorating and , (I'm lazy and hate to dust, less clutter means less dusting.)

above: This is the view if you walk in my front door looking straight out into the living room.

above: this is the the central part of the house, we took out the ottoman so the kids had lots of room to play. They have a game room upstairs but prefer to be downstairs.

above: this is the view standing at the back of the living room wall of windows looking out to the front of the house.

above: this is the view standing in front of the TV cabinet looking into the kitchen. I wish I had room for bar stools at the bar but there's not enough room unless we move the couch closer to the TV and that means less space for the kids to play.

above: our TV cabinet which I love, I was inspired by Candace Olsen. It's taken me 3 years to gather up things to put in the shelves and I'm still not 100% sure I like the way it looks. (It's a work in progress)

above: HELP!!!!!!! I so badly want some sort of window treatment to go on this window but I cannot for the life of me figure out what would look best. I can sew so I can customize it, just please tell me what you think would look best. (FYI the top of the top window is about 20ft from the ground.)

above: This is the mantel above the fireplace, the clock was a gift from some great friends. The family portrait was taken almost exactly a year ago. It was taken 1 week after her birth (that's why I look so bloated)

above: this is the view from the front door looking into our dining/ formal living room.

above: this is the view from the entryway looking into the dining/ formal living room. As you can see I have a color scheme going on, a different color for each of the main rooms. Living room is green, dining/ formal room is blue, and kitchen is going to be yellow and orange.

above: this is just another view of the formal room.

above: Our beautiful wine cabinet. (No wine or wine glasses because of the kiddos) I love the nickle elephant!)

above:HELP!!!!!!!! here's part of the kitchen. There isn't much going on in the rest of the kitchen except for soon to be re-pained cabinets! This is another window I am trying to make window treatments for. I once again have no idea what to do here. please give me your suggestions!!!!
above: the kids table was my inspiration for the orange and yellow kitchen. I have been looking a long time for the perfect table and I finally found it at Babies R Us I think it's a pretty new model. This play mat brings all of the colors in the downstairs together, I love it!

above: I made this tonight to kind of start bringing the kitchen colors together (the highchair not the drop cloth on the floor) It is little yellow and orange lemons, and the best part it's reversible. So the lemons are perfect for Spring and Summer and the...

above: Leopard is perfect for fall and Winter!

Wow that was a really long post did any one make it to the end?????????

Catch Up!

So I guess not much has been going on in my life lately because I have not blogged in quite sometime. This maybe due to the fact that I am with the kids all day and then usually work in my "sweat shop" till about 12 or 1 every night. I somehow manage to get all my shows in though ; ) Kyle started a new business so it's been just me and the kids.

I've been so busy lately I haven't had much time to do the "fun" projects I like to do, but I managed to squeeze a few in. Here's the latest:

My Grandma and I made these Easter baskets for the kids the other day. I got the idea from Pottery Barn Kids. Their baskets including the lining ran for about $40 each, mine coat a total of about $6 each, what a deal! This shirt was just the usual free style applique.

And this one it's kinda hard to tell because the outfit is a tad too big but I just appliqued a heart onto the top and on the bloomers.

FYI- I probably won't be blogging for awhile again, this month and next are going to be quite busy with Easter, Birthday's, Weddings, Anniversary's, and working.

What a week, what a post

Wow it has been one busy week! I had lots of orders to make and get out, business is better than ever, I had shower preparations to do, made some cute things for some of my friends that are having babies, and got to hang out at the hospital for 12 hours while Katie had her babies! What a week!

First off, I am so excited for Katie and Jason, little and I really mean that little Kinley & Ansley were born Thursday March, 12! I haven't seen them yet, but it's ok I will soon enough and then I'm sure I will get to see lots of them if Katie & Jason ever move here ; ) Thursday started off a pretty normal day. I was taking Katie to her check-up at the doctor, and then we were maybe going to eat lunch, and thats all the plans I had for the day, or so I thought. It seems the babies had a different plan for the day. I won't go into detail, because the only people that really read this were there : ) But the day ended with the birth of two beautiful little girls! Katie and Jason now have two beautiful little girls to take care of. I am so excited for them, I only wish they would be able to leave the hospital in a few days. But they will get bigger and leave soon enough. Tomorrow I will hopefully get to see them in person. They are only allowed a few visitors a day, and so many people really want to see them! *This is Katie at almost 33 weeks and 2cm dialated

*These are her contractions at the bottom, and the girls heartbeats at the top

Katie's baby shower has for the second time been postponed, but it will happend eventually and it is going to be a great shower!

I had this shopping cart cover pattern laying around so I decided to give it ago, Makayla was using Kobi's old shopping cart cover and it had seen etter days. I started reading the pattern, and it was basically in Chinese. I've used patterns before, but this didn't even make sense. So I called my grandmother (sewing pro) and she couldn't understand it either so we winged it! But it turned out great as you can see, and Makayla loved it!
*We are in our favorite isle in this pic ; )

Kyle has been telling me for a month now about this wonderful Valentine's Surprise he had coming for me, well it's way past Valentine's, but I got it yesterday! And he was right it is wonderful! He's doing a website for a friend who has a company who does paintings from replica's. He gave them this picture and they had someone paint it, and it actually wasn't a machine that did it, it was a real person (thats rare these days) It was the best gift ever, it's on a shelf in our bedroom for now, but I want to get it framed soon. haha, I just noticed this is the picture that is on my front blog page : ) I must have really liked this photo!
*This is the actual pic

*This is the painting

Kobi had his first Soccer practice on Tuesday. It's through the YMCA, and the age for his team is 3-5 year olds which I'm not happy about. He turned 3 in December, so he is the smallest one on the team. He is really good at dribbling the ball so I thought he would be so great. They were doing a practice game and Kobi was trying so hard. But he came running to me half way through the game and said, " I can't get the ball" well duh, don't put 3 year olds and 5 year olds on the same team, it's a huge difference in size. They 5 year olds of course were ahead of the pack and had the ball the whole time. I hope his first game isn't like this or I'm gonna have to do something. Is that the soccer mom in me coming out? His first game was scheduled for this week, but with this rainy weather it has been cancled.
* Kobi's in the far right in the white shirt *This was Makayla's 1st time playing in the grass

Here's a random video of Kobi making Makayla laugh!
