I was sooooo happy she was the winner, she's from Keller TX, has 4 young children, and no formal training in food. Her show, focuses on making meals for four for $10 and under! Perfect for me, I'm trying to get back into the swing of cooking again. So some new easy meals would be great! I believe her show will premiere this Sunday on the Food Network!

So anyways... here is the recipe.... http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/5-minute-individual-potato-gratins-recipe/index.html

I made them tonight for dinner, and they were some of the best potatoes I've ever had let alone made. The only things I did differently are:

1. I used 1 XL potato, it filled 10 of the 12 muffin cups.
2. I used half swiss cheese and half american cheese
3. I used heavy cream, but if you don't have any you can substitue for a slice of butter on top.
4. Oh and make the last layer before the heavy cream the cheese, it gives it a nice brown crust.
5. One more thing, I only cooked mine for about 25 min. Once they start bubbling they are done!

They were super simple and a great quick and easy side dish.

Next I'm going to try her 4 step chicken. It looks really good/ easy and you can add or take out things you like/dislike. Here is the recipe for that if you wanna give it a try... http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/flexible-4-step-chicken-for-family-and-company--rustic-lemon-onion-chicken-recipe/index.html
Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03545267296225097990noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1275878326199089801.post-40357839672106804812009-05-23T23:54:00.003-05:002009-05-24T00:11:58.111-05:00Chocolate Tuxedos
Yum these are so good and so pretty! This maybe due to the fact that I am with the kids all day and then usually work in my "sweat shop" till about 12 or 1 every night. I had lots of orders to make and get out, business is better than ever, I had shower preparations to do, made some cute things for some of my friends that are having babies, and got to hang out at the hospital for 12 hours while Katie had her babies! What a week!

First off, I am so excited for Katie and Jason, little and I really mean that little Kinley & Ansley were born Thursday March, 12! I haven't seen them yet, but it's ok I will soon enough and then I'm sure I will get to see lots of them if Katie & Jason ever move here ; ) Thursday started off a pretty normal day. I was taking Katie to her check-up at the doctor, and then we were maybe going to eat lunch, and thats all the plans I had for the day, or so I thought. It seems the babies had a different plan for the day. I won't go into detail, because the only people that really read this were there : ) But the day ended with the birth of two beautiful little girls! Katie and Jason now have two beautiful little girls to take care of. I am so excited for them, I only wish they would be able to leave the hospital in a few days. But they will get bigger and leave soon enough. Tomorrow I will hopefully get to see them in person. They are only allowed a few visitors a day, and so many people really want to see them! *This is Katie at almost 33 weeks and 2cm dialated

*These are her contractions at the bottom, and the girls heartbeats at the top

Katie's baby shower has for the second time been postponed, but it will happend eventually and it is going to be a great shower!

I had this shopping cart cover pattern laying around so I decided to give it ago, Makayla was using Kobi's old shopping cart cover and it had seen etter days. I started reading the pattern, and it was basically in Chinese. I've used patterns before, but this didn't even make sense. So I called my grandmother (sewing pro) and she couldn't understand it either so we winged it! But it turned out great as you can see, and Makayla loved it!
*We are in our favorite isle in this pic ; )

Kyle has been telling me for a month now about this wonderful Valentine's Surprise he had coming for me, well it's way past Valentine's, but I got it yesterday! And he was right it is wonderful! He's doing a website for a friend who has a company who does paintings from replica's. He gave them this picture and they had someone paint it, and it actually wasn't a machine that did it, it was a real person (thats rare these days) It was the best gift ever, it's on a shelf in our bedroom for now, but I want to get it framed soon. haha, I just noticed this is the picture that is on my front blog page : ) I must have really liked this photo!
*This is the actual pic

*This is the painting

Kobi had his first Soccer practice on Tuesday. It's through the YMCA, and the age for his team is 3-5 year olds which I'm not happy about. He turned 3 in December, so he is the smallest one on the team. He is really good at dribbling the ball so I thought he would be so great. They were doing a practice game and Kobi was trying so hard. But he came running to me half way through the game and said, " I can't get the ball" well duh, don't put 3 year olds and 5 year olds on the same team, it's a huge difference in size. They 5 year olds of course were ahead of the pack and had the ball the whole time. I hope his first game isn't like this or I'm gonna have to do something. Is that the soccer mom in me coming out? His first game was scheduled for this week, but with this rainy weather it has been cancled.
* Kobi's in the far right in the white shirt *This was Makayla's 1st time playing in the grass

Here's a random video of Kobi making Makayla laugh!

Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03545267296225097990noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1275878326199089801.post-52965120448447446492009-03-08T10:16:00.003-05:002009-03-08T10:19:35.550-05:00Getting CloseHere is a video of Makayla from yesterday, she is getting close to walking. I amI've been feeling extra crafty lately, don't really know why? But here are the latest....

These shirts I made with soft fabric paint and stamps, not to much explanation necessary for these. I got the idea from Darby, who I now blog stock ; ) She has so many great ideas, you should check out her blog!

These I actually thought of on my own (I usually see someone else have a great idea and then change it up a bit) I bought some granimals shirts from walmart for only $3.50 each. Then I cleaned out Kyle's closet and got out all his old dress shirts he doesn't wear anymore. I cut out these designs and just appliqued them on with my sewing machine. So they each have custom shirts that are kind of a keepsake at the same time. And the fabric was free, so that was even better. And no Kyle did not have a motorcycle dress shirt. That fabric was from Kobi's babyshower (motorcycle theme) so I'm so happy that I finally got a chance to use the fabric for something ; ) I have many more shirts left so be looking for more to come ; )

*This was one of Kyle's 7 Diamonds Shirts (I couldn't let an expensive shirt go to waste) It's hard to tell but it was embroidered in black)Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03545267296225097990noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1275878326199089801.post-83247143974754235602009-03-03T21:50:00.004-06:002009-03-03T22:10:55.418-06:00Only boys wear blueSo I am never going to dress Makayla in blue again without putting a bow on her head, even if the blue outfit is covered in flower print. Apparently only boy baby's are allowed to wear blue. About 6 people came up to Makayla and I while we were out today commenting on what big blue eyes "he" has. I just smiled and said "yes she does have big blue eyes she has" (some caught on ; ) One older man even said, "oh he's a little cross-eyed, but don't worry that will go away" Can you believe that??? I mean who says that? And she's not cross-eyed. I just wanted to be like, "look old man your the cross-eyed one!!!" Geese people! People think babies are free game, they can stop you from doing what your doing (while I'm in a rush to get home before naptime) to stop and talk to your baby, critique them, and touch all over them. I just want to be like "don't touch her I don't know where your hands have been, but I know her's about to be, IN HER MOUTH."
This was one convo I had with an older woman:
Lady: What a precious little boy, how old is he?
Me: SHE is 9 months
Lady: Oh I guess she's not talking then, is she crawling
Me: No talking yet, and yes she is crawling
Lady: Oh hhhmmm (as she's waving) Does she not wave yet, surely she can wave by now
Me: Nope no waving (by now I'm trying to get out of there)

*This is the outfit Makayla was wearing today minus the bow

Anyways... that's my rant of the day, I guess I have been pretty lucky that so far no one has come up to me and told me how to deal with my child better than I do.Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03545267296225097990noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1275878326199089801.post-43946638388003089752009-03-03T15:09:00.004-06:002009-03-03T15:20:50.020-06:00Yay!So I just got my Victoria Secret order in the mail today! And I loved everything I got! Only thing is I have to return my swim suit, it doesn't fit... Because it's too BIG!!!! For once! I hate swim suit shopping esp at Target everything I always try on is too small, but not this time! Speaking of Target, I got a fitness ball today! So now I can start working out. When I was at my fittest 2 summers ago, I was using the ball and doing a full body work-out on it every other day while I watch an hour tv show. So I get to stay home, work-out, and watch tv! It can't get any easier than that, and it only cost me a total of $18 (I got a set of 3 lb weights.)

*Now if only my ball can make me look like this in my swimsuit!

So, i failed on my no sweets for a month, thanks to a certain someone who made the best cookies ever! But those cookies were so good I don't even care it was worth it! I did last a week though, and that's not too bad for as much as I like to eat sweets.Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03545267296225097990noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1275878326199089801.post-79619079652514556282009-03-01T20:31:00.016-06:002009-03-01T23:54:06.814-06:00Spring is here... in March???Our trees are blooming in the front yard, yet it is only March? They are so pretty, our street is lined with pretty white blossoming flowers. I know we will have another freeze and they will all die off. But I'm really hoping the bluebonnets don't bloom soon. Last year we didn't get pics in the bluebonnets because they bloomed so early then we had a freeze : ( I really want pics of the kids in the bluebonnets this year! Texas weather is CRAZY!!!

So the blooms inspired me to make a spring dress for Makayla, although it fits now so I'm not sure if she'll be able to wear it when it's actually spring. Who knows maybe we'll get more CRAZY Texas weather again and she can wear it next week!

So Katie talked me into making a pillowcase dress which I'm not a huge fan of. They are a little too unshaped for my taste, and I'm not a fan of the ribbon scrunched at the top. It looks a little too homemade. But I decided to wing it and change it up a tad. I basically just started cutting the fabric and stitching it up, because I didn't have a pattern or a tutorial to go off of. It was actually really easy to make. I think finished it in less than an hour, and let me tell you it was defiantly not an uninterrupted hour. I started right after Makayla went down for a nap, but she had other plans and decided she wasn't ready to go to sleep. So after listening to her fuss for awhile I plopped her down in her playpen in my sewing room and went to work. So here it is... not too bad for my first dress. I have a lot of cute fabric I've been wanting to do something with so maybe I'll make a few more different styles of dresses that she will actually be able to wear this summer!

My version of a pillowcase Dress:

1 yard of fabric
matching thread
binding or trim (I used a cloth trim)

Cut out an A- line shape on fabric (measure your child where you want the length to come down to and her widest part, then add about an inch and a half at least for extra room to grow and seam allowance) cut the other piece of fabric to match.

2. Pin right sides of fabric together. Cut out a J shape of the fabrics for the arm holes.

3. Hem the bottom of dress.

4. Sew the sides of the dress together.

5. Fold 1/2" down on top of the dress and hem.

6. Turn the dress right side out. Pin your bias tape or trim around the armholes, and sew
them down.

7. Cut off four pieces (10"-15" depending on age of child, I used 10" for my 9 month old)
bias tape or trim and sew at each corner of the top of the dress for straps. (Your going to tie
these over their shoulders)

8. And to add some detail you can take some rick-rack or trim you have laying around and
sew it to the bottom of the dress. It would also be cute to turn it into an empire waist
(sew the trip under the bust lol line of the dress)

Thats it! Sorry about no pics for the directions I was trying to get it done before Makayla lost interest in the play pen!

Look she's standing with no hands!!! I can't dye or cut my hair until Katie does
2. No sweets for a month started 2/23 ends 3/23 (Celice started it, and I followed)

So I have been doing ok on the 1st one, but my roots are getting bad : ( So far so good though, I think my hair will eventually be naturally blonde so I am happy that hopefully I will not have to color it again until I go gray or it starts getting mousey. And it's getting longer (my hair grows so slow) I've been told if you aren't coloring your hair it will grow faster, and I'm also taking Biotin (when I remember) thats supposed to help it grow faster.

And the 2nd one was basically just to ween myself off sweets (I have been eating a dessert after like each meal) I need to be in swim suit shape this summer (I have no excuse this year) I don't want to look like a frumpy mom anymore!

I must confess though I accidently ate 2 peanutbutter m&m's today while visiting with Katie! I was just standing there beside her table and was talking and I just picked them up without thinking and ate 2 before I realized what I was doing. It's no big deal, but it's crazy how it's just a habbit and we do these things without even thinking (eating junk) So I guess this means I have to start over???

After the sweet month is over (if I can ever get through it) I might go for Cokes. I only drink cokes if I go out to eat (we don't have them at home because we would drink them all the time) So it may not be that hard.Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03545267296225097990noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1275878326199089801.post-59488033494398823612009-02-24T16:24:00.010-06:002009-02-24T20:37:26.154-06:00Relaxing Weekend... LOLWhat a great weekend we had. Kobi was staying at my dad's for the weekend so we decided it was a great opportunity to get some things done around the house (last minute thought) I have
been looking for an armoire to paint to go upstairs in the gameroom. The tv stand currently up there is not the safest for a crawling and soon to be toddling baby. I can just see her crawling under it and it collapsing on top of her. So that thought got stuck in my head and I was determined to find a fix for it and fast! I had been looking on Craigslist the last part of last week trying to find a cheap solid wood armoire I could paint. And after a few days I found one that I thought would be great the only problem it was over an hour away and we would have to get out Kyle's dad's trailer and go all the way out there Saturday am, which would take up a lot of the day that I could be working on fixing it up. So we woke up Sat morning and started getting ready to leave to go pick it up and we thought well maybe we should look on Craigslist one last time to see if maybe something was more in the area. And there it was the perfect armoire for $100 and it was only a mile away! So I called right away (it had just been listed that am) the lady said she had someone coming out that afternoon to pick it up. We couldn't let it getaway so we offered $50 more dollars and said we would come right away. And of course they said yes : ) So instead of going 30 min out of the way to go get the trailer we called our wonderful friend and asked to borrow their truck. (Thank you so much Celice!) So we picked it up and went straight home to see what needed to be done to fix it up the way we wanted! After a couple trips to Lowes and two of their hot dogs (they have the best hot dogs ever) and some advice from their knowledgeable specialists we go all the instructions we needed to get started!

It actually wasn't that hard at all, just time consuming.

1. Apply de-glosser (finish remover, it's like nail polish remover)
2. Sand lightly (thanks for the Electric sander Celice it went much faster)
3. Paint on primer
4. Apply paint (a couple of coats)

It basically took 1 day on off waiting for it to dry to complete it, the next day we put all the doors and shelves back on an it was done!

We also installed our entry way chandiler and living room fan that we have been waiting for. (we had to borrow a 20 ft ladder from a lighting store to be able to install both)

Kyle applying the finish remover

Some of the primed doors

Finished armoire (it's hard to tell but it's a light blue)

Entry way candlierMeredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03545267296225097990noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1275878326199089801.post-85766655875421460742009-02-19T22:30:00.001-06:002009-02-23T14:46:16.827-06:00Mission PossibleI've been looking a lot on Etsy at appliqued designs, and I always thought it would be so difficult. He tucked himself in between Kyle and I. Then he started complaining and crying about his ear hurting. Half asleep I said what is wrong with your ear, did you hit it on something? He didn't say anything so I fell asleep a few min later he started going on again about his ear. So I woke up again and asked what happened to your ear. I was thinking he was getting an ear infection. He hasn't had one before but he did just get over a cold. Still half asleep I heard him say, "Scout did it" (Scout my mother's little puppy) I said what are you talking about Scout did it? He hasn't seen Scout since Friday. Then he said, "Scout barked in my ear and hurt it!" I just laughed quietly to myself thinking what is he talking about. So I got up and gave him some Tylenol thinking it was an ear infection. He went to sleep, and I didn't hear another word about it until Kyle asked him if his ear was ok. He said yes. But was still insisting Scout did it! So now I'm thinking he had a bad dream or something. few hours later he started complaining about his mouth hurting. Then he blamed that on the dog again saying "he barked in my mouth". So I had him call my mom and tell her what was going on. She just laughed. But I still don't get it. What does a dog have to do with his ear and mouth hurting. I would love to know what goes through their minds sometimes, but whatever I'm just happy he doesn't have an ear infection!Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03545267296225097990noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1275878326199089801.post-89452570877762864112009-01-29T23:06:00.001-06:002009-02-23T14:49:49.134-06:00Funny StoryAt Dinner the other night (Tuna Sandwich and Carrots) Kobi was talking about his food... and said that carrots make you big and strong like daddy! And I said yes they do, so he took a bite of the carrots and made a funny face. He then told me that he didn't want to be big and strong, he wanted to "stay little like I am. " I asked him why. He then said I want to be little, I don't need to eat my veggies! I of course got a big kick out of that! It's funny how they learn to manipulate at such a young age! lolMeredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03545267296225097990noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1275878326199089801.post-69932792801149486152009-01-26T21:19:00.001-06:002009-02-23T14:50:08.368-06:00A little Good and a little bad
It started off to be a great day, I finally sold Mak's Stroller and car seat set after about 3 weeks! I guess I'm sorta sad that she's not in it anymore, she's growing up way too fast! We were given a new mattress (thanks Renata) so I put the old one on Craigs List this am. I didn't know people actually sold/bought mattress' on Craigs List but sure enough they do, kinda gross for the buyer ; ) Not mine of course but maybe other peoples! lol Anyway... I sold it after 15 min of it being listed! So now I just have one stroller left to sell, any takers? J/k. So by new I've already made a bit of money.

Now for the Bad, Mak got really hoarse sounding and is now coughing a lot, it's so sad sounding. I tried to get her in to the Doctor but it was already 4:00 and they said they were booked. So they told me to go to Cooks Urgent Care, and I despise this place!!! When Kobi was born I was sent here when he was 3 days old for an eye problem, where they said the eye thing was no big deal but informed me he had a heart murmur! What!!!!!!!! We had just left the hospital and no one said anything about a heart murmur, I was so upset I just about lost it, I think I cried the rest of the night. I didn't even know what a heart murmur was and they sure didn't tell me! Anyway no Kobi does not have a heart murmur our doctor checks everytime and has never noticed it. What an idiot doctor I had to deal with. So anyway, I got to Cooks this afternoon and the front desk lady was not that nice. I sat in the waiting room for about 10 min before I decided I didn't want to hear another misdiagnosis from a doctor so I walked out, never again will I go here!

More Bad... or at least annoying! I went to the fire station to have Mak's and Kobi's car seats installed correctly. I made an appointment with a car seat technician at that! Well he didn't even know as much as I did. So it's still not in correctly. I wish they didn't make those things so dang complicated! You know most people out there have their car seats installed incorrectly and don't buckle them in correctly either. Kinda scary!

Oh and the worst part of the day, I fell down the stairs, AGAIN!!! That's the second in like 2 weeks. At least this time I only kinda fell, my socks were wet so when I stepped from the last step to the tile, being in a rush I slipped and landed on my back. I think one day I'm going to fall down the stairs and break my neck, our next house will defiantly be a ranch style!
Anyway I'm hoping for a much more uneventful day tomorrow... cross your fingers!Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03545267296225097990noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1275878326199089801.post-85099392824979819262009-01-24T21:09:00.001-06:002009-02-23T14:50:25.609-06:00Resolution Time

So my New Year's Resolution was basically to be a better "Stay at home mom." I think I've been doing well so far. I'm using my Crock Pot quiet often and spending more time at home instead of out shopping. I went to Grapevine Mills today and it wasn't even my idea, and the only money I spent was on 3 pairs of pj's for Kobi that he desperately needed. I wish I had a pic of him last night wearing a pair of Spiderman pj's from last year, haha! The sleeves came to right under is elbow, the bottom of the shirt was above his belly button, and the pants were beyond high waters! I'm slowly working on that "Super Mom" Title. I want to be the crafty homemaking type I just need to find time to do that. I guess maybe now that Kobi is back in MDO two days a week I might be able to.

So my little Makayla is mobile now! She started crawling recently. But she would still rather sit their and cry for me to pick her up than to do it herself. But of course I give in I secretly want her to stay a baby forever. She also pulls up on everything she can, toys, couch, my leg! But I don't think she will be waking anytime soon, she doesn't have a lot of balance. She still falls over when she's sitting quite a bit. I guess she won't be a dancer : ( Although when she stands it's usually on her tip toes so maybe she'll be a ballerina.

On another note... I think I am having early signs of Alzheimer's. I can remember something I did 2 min ago. It's becoming a handicap. I've laid my phone down twice in two months. and had them both stole. I went to the post office a few days ago, I got to the counter to pay and realized I left my wallet in the car, and then after I paid I left my wallet sitting on the counter. Luckily it didn't get stolen. And it just keeps getting worse everyday. Now I'm starting to forget words. I feel like I'm loosing my mind. I hope it's only temporary, I would hate to loose a kid! lol

Hopefully I'll remember to write another post in the next few days.

Meredithhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03545267296225097990noreply@blogger.com0
